“My experiences as an organic farmer and my philosophical reflections enable me to transform everyday moments into deeper insights.”
Artist Statement
Art as a bridge to the inner self
For me, art is the language that makes the invisible tangible. With my sculptures, I create spaces in which people can connect with their inner world. These places invite people into self-reflection and encourage them to experience the vitality of the moment.
As an artist, I am deeply rooted in nature. My everyday life on the organic farm reflects the interconnectedness of all things. My works are often created impulsively, driven by energy and curiosity. I value the freedom to question norms. All of this is reflected in my sculptures. They invite you to let go of familiar ways of thinking and explore new perspectives.
I want to inspire people to welcome the unknown with courage and playfulness. I link philosophical questions with everyday moments and remind people that there is just as much to discover in stillness as there is in movement.
My vision is a world in which people live in harmony. This world is inspired by art spaces that promote a sustainable way of life. Here, everyone can realize themselves in freedom, while the responsibility for the common good is shared in solidarity.

"My art creates spaces in which people can get in touch with their inner reality. I encourage viewers to allow their feelings to bring more lightness and liveliness into their lives.”

The art creator
From organic farmer to artist
Martin Gautsch makes art, thinks art, makes art. But he found his way to art in a roundabout way. Originally, his life was entirely focused on preserving traditions. As the scion of a farming family, he initially embarked on a career as a master farmer and forester, took over his parents' farm and ran the organic farm for over 20 years. Having always been fascinated by wood, at some point he discovered carving. Even his first works were astonishing with their high degree of lifelikeness and plasticity.
From organic farmer to artist
Martin Gautsch, born in Austria in 1975, spent his childhood on his parents' farm in Thomatal, surrounded by nature and the tranquillity of the mountains. This environment awakened his curiosity and creativity at an early age, but it was his connection to the environment and working with his hands that initially shaped his life. After receiving the qualification as a master farmer and forester, he took over the organic farm and ran it with passion and dedication for over 20 years. Despite his fulfilling life as a farmer, Gautsch always felt an inner longing for freedom and deeper expression, which eventually led him on a new path.
In art, Martin Gautsch found the opportunity to express his inner world to the outside world. As a self-taught artist, he began to shape powerful sculptures out of wood using a chainsaw. The creative process gave him the freedom to explore life in a new way and led him to philosophy and spirituality. These interests changed his view of the world and helped him to experience life in its fullness. In 2015, he transformed his parents' farm into the “Kunsthof Thomatal”, creating a place that combines art, nature and self-reflection.
Today, Gautsch creates works of art that are not only impressive, but also convey an emotional depth. His sculptures encourage viewers to question their own lifestyles and norms, inviting them to connect with themselves in an authentic way. Martin Gautsch's sculptures are now internationally recognized and his “Kunsthof Thomatal” is a popular destination for visitors who are inspired by his philosophy and art.
